My Story
Tingwei Wu is my name; Afterwork Reunion is the creative identity that brings my musical ideas together.
In the first half of my life, music was never absent, but as a supporting role. Ambition, challenge, and the pursuit of a business career filled my days. That life nourished me and helped me grow, yet part of me also seemed to become suspended somewhere in time. Beyond work, pieces of life stood still—and some simply passed me by. There were ups and downs throughout the journey, and I always turned back to music. Over time, all of these influences came together to shape the multidimensional person—and musician—I am today.
And so, I decided to begin the second act of my life, this time with music in the leading role. I am currently pursuing my graduate studies in Composition for Film and Visual Media at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). My purpose is clear: to give my music a greater sense of mission and a distinctive purpose—to create music that others can truly depend on, and ultimately, to let my music exist in service of someone else’s vision.
To me, creating music is timeless. Most other musical roles will eventually see their spotlight fade. That is why my works span a wide range of styles, as I continue to explore music across different media, contexts, and creative needs. The musicians who have inspired me are far too numerous to name, spanning classical music and Romantic-era pianists, jazz, blues, hard rock and metal bands, solo guitarists, old-school hip-hop, modern trap and emo, synthwave, and even the more recent world of hyperpop.
Melodic Pulse, Narrative Artistry, Painting with Sound, and Emotional Imprinting—these four qualities form the backbone of my musical voice. My music carries an almost constant urge to express, as though there were always emotions waiting to be spoken—and longing to be heard.
Beyond composing, I am also an amateur performer, primarily on guitar, keyboards, and vocals. Afterwork Reunion is also the name my friends and I perform under. It represents the innocence, dreams, and passions that once lived within all of us—and the belief that, through music, we can always find our way recollect them.
